Combined cycle power systems modelling

Recover energy from gas turbine exhaust by raising steam to run a Rankine cycle steam turbine.

An application modelling a basic system

  1. Simple cycle gas turbines.
  2. Steam turbines 2.5 – 150 MW depending on gas turbine installation. Superheated or saturated steam at throttle.
  3. Boiler. Bent tube low head three drum type with re-circulation.
  4. Economiser. Cross flow, `n’ passes, unmixed between passes.
  5. Superheater. (only if steam at throttle superheated). Arrangement same as economiser.
  6. Supplementary firing. (only if superheater employed).
  7. Deaerator cum open water heater. Uses steam bled from turbine supplemented by steam from flashing blow-down stream. Residual water from flash drum used to heat make up from external water treatment plant.
  8. Condenser and cooling tower with concomitant make-up water.

The program presents a set of parameters for a base case which the user can vary within allowed limits conforming to usual practice.

It then proceeds to make a preliminary estimate of the performance of the system defined by the user and the specifications of the various items of equipment.

Finally, the results are presented, including flow sheets detailing the pressures, temperatures, mass flow rates and enthalpys of gas, steam and water in the system.

Run this application

  1. Download this file
  2. Select Open and nominate C:\ as the Destination folder. Click Install. This will make a folder called CombCyc0 holding a file called cc0input.exe
  3. Check cc0input.exe (and the other two exe files in the folder) with an up to date virus scanner (eg. McAfee). They should be clean. If so click Start, Run and enter C:\CombCyc0\cc0Input.exe.
